A Bit from Brett
My 30-year career spans global ocean conservation, sustainable commodities in Southeast Asia, ecotourism impact analysis in Rwanda, and internet access evaluation in post-apartheid South African townships. At FishChoice, I led a team scaling platforms and programs with a $1M+ budget through major organizational transitions. We built the world’s leading fishery improvement tracking website, providing essential data to companies with public sustainability commitments. I facilitated collaboration between web developers, conservation experts, and industry stakeholders with diverse priorities and communication styles.
TL;DR
- 30 years leading conservation and sustainability initiatives globally
- Entrepreneurial approach bridging technical execution and stakeholder collaboration
- Facilitates high-stakes collaboration across technical, conservation, and business stakeholders
- Background in both web technology and sustainability so I speak both languages and translate between them easily
My entrepreneurial approach balances innovation with practical implementation. I meet organizations where they are: providing hands-on guidance for early-stage initiatives and connecting established programs with strategic resources to accelerate impact. I’ve coached teams through growth phases, navigating uncertainty while maintaining mission focus. I co-authored a book on Social Return on Investment (SROI) for maximizing positive impact.
My greatest contributions come from building relationships and creating environments where diverse stakeholders collaborate toward shared goals. I set projects and team members up for success.
I hold a Master’s in Environmental Management from Yale University and a BS in Anthropology from UCLA.
